I’m currently preparing for my ASA 101 certification and am eager to build hands-on experience on the water. I’ve only crewed in two SEW-MADS and absolutely loved the experiences. I’ve helmed and crewed on my MacGregor 26X for 22 years, but I’ve never raced it and am not interested in doing so. I learned to sail on a Sunfish at age 15.

I started sailing in the 1960s on 21 ft wooden sloop rig with my father who has what he called a Michigan Lake Day Sailor. He beefed up the keel in the driveway. My sister and I manned the jib sheets, no wenches.  We also learned to strip paint and caulk seams. I still have a sunfish, which I used to have great fun launching on the downwind side of Corpus Christi Bay by the college and downwind sailed to the marina downtown. I am shamed to see how dirty my sunfish is right now.

In 1978 started sailing in the Wednesday night races in Corpus Christi Bay on a Columbia 26 for a few years. After that many, many years sailed on a lot of different boats ranging from 20ft to 50ft. Owned and raced a J22 for a few years. Our best J22 circuit race 1999, 14th out of 28 boats in a circuit race HYC with the first 10 boats all sailed by world class sailors.

So, I haven’t been sailing in a while and am older and not as agile as I use to be. I can pack a chute and tie a bowline with my eyes closed.

From 2011 – 2014, I raced 3-4 times a week while stationed in Long Beach, CA.  Weekly Beer cans on Kirby 30 in Alamitos Bay and on a J-30 in MDR.  Offshore to Catalina and San Diego on a Jenneau 44 as often as I could.  Culminated in a delivery back to Long Beach from HI post Transpac 2015. Experienced in all boat positions (to include bowman).  I’ve been sailing on and off for almost 30 years. I miss it and would love the opportunity to enjoy the water again!
