Commodore’s Report

by Bill Clark, LCYC Commodore

Happy New Year! I hope this year lets us get back to more normal operations. I am amazed at how many lend a hand running and supporting our club. This year I encourage everyone to be involved in all the activities we are able to host. As mostly an all-volunteer club, it takes a lot of us to pull this off. I encourage members, if they have concerns, to please get in touch with our board members or myself.

This year there will be a big push to get our marina back in shape with flotation being changed out in order to stay ahead of the Army Corps of Engineers timeline.

I look forward to seeing everybody at the club enjoying the facilities as soon as COVID lets us, and using our boats as often as we can.

See you on the water!

Docks and Grounds

The new railing has been installed between the boat ramp and sidewalk. The LCYC grounds are looking fantastic thanks to John Ruiz and his assistants!

Series Racing: Join the Race Committee Team!

by Chuck Begley, Interim Race Director

With Rick Mella’s well-earned retirement as Race Director, a group has organized a new RC team for 2022. So far, we have Bo Wright (Equipment), Jordan Merson (Scorer), Chris and Debbie Fogle (Trophies), Jim Garity (PHRF Ratings), seven Principal Race Officers (we need three more), and acting Race Director (myself). Each PRO will need a minimum of four crew for the RC boats. The success of the program will depend on enough people committing in advance to fill all the slots on the calendar. A Race Training Clinic will be provided on January 8th at noon on the McKown deck.

If you are interested in joining the RC team, review the table below and contact me or a PRO about performing a job for one or more of the series.

Youth Sailing Volunteers Urgently Needed

by Chris Fogle

Do you wish you could get more involved in our Club’s activities and – at the same time – learn more about our sport?

We currently have two open positions looking for dedicated volunteers!

LCYC Representative to the TSA – Our club is a member of the Texas Sailing Association (https://www.txsail.org). Many people know of TSA’s affiliation with the annual youth racing circuit in Texas, and each year LCYC hosts a youth regatta as a stop on their circuit. As the LCYC Representative to the TSA you’ll act as a conduit for information from TSA to the club. You’ll participate in the annual TSA meeting held at the last youth regatta of the year, usually in November. You’ll participate in setting the schedule for regattas, reviewing proposed changes to published Race Conditions; and relaying information to club members about upcoming youth and adult championship regattas. If you would like more information or have any questions, please contact member Chris Fogle, our current TSA rep.

LCYC Youth Regatta Chairperson – Each year LCYC hosts a Youth Regatta which typically attracts over 80 youth sailors from across Texas and Oklahoma, and sometimes as far away as the US Virgin Islands. We currently are in urgent need of a person or team to take on the task of organizing the regatta for 2022. This is a great way to learn what goes into planning and running a regatta, and it has the added benefit of introducing you to our sport of sailboat racing. If you volunteer to lead this important club activity, you will be provided training and mentoring from a very experienced team! If you would like to find out more information about this important position or have any questions, please contact Chris or Debbie Fogle via the regatta email address: youthregatta@lcyc.net
