Women’s Sailing Program

The LCYC Women’s Sailing Program is designed to empower more women to get out and sail for fun, race or cruise in a friendly environment.
The Women’s Sailing Program is for women sailors both beginner and experienced to sail together.

We offer several different opportunities for women to get involved:

Wednesday Morning Women’s Sailing Group – meet at the Super Dock at 10:00 am. The focus is on keel boats November-March then board boats April-October. We will be promoting Sunfish Sailing in Spring/Summer 2024. In inclement weather, we meet for coffee time & conversation in the clubhouse at 10:00 am.

Women Only Intro Learn to Sail – 3 days of instruction and sailing on June 18-20, 2024 and a second class August 27-29, 2024 Class size will be limited.  Watch for the sign-up notices in the Weekly Blast email.

Social Events – Jan 6th, April 7th and August 3rd with sailing related activities and discussion

FUN SAIL Events 2024: March 23rd, May 27th, June 22nd, July 27th and September 2nd . These are club wide events for all members hosted by the Women’s Sailing Program.  We will set up a shortened racecourse for those wishing to practice their racing skills as well as optional courses for non-racers and those wishing to cruise. These events are planned in conjunction with the Social Meal Events (Italian Night, Memorial Day Fish Fry, Jimmy Buffett, Shrimp Fest and Labor Day Picnic.)

SEW-MAD Women’s Regatta on September 28th at LCYC – All boats must have a Woman Skipper and Women Crew. The SEW-MAD Regatta was started back in 1991 by Sandra E Walker (SEW) and Ruth Madorski (MAD).  2024 will be the 33rd year of the Women’s SEW-MAD Regatta. Our men volunteer to work Race Committee and Kitchen/Cooking duties, so we can enjoy a special day celebrating Women Sailors!  It’s a fun day out on the water racing then a wonderful meal, awards and celebration!  You won’t want to miss it!

Women’s Sailing Classes

The Intro Learn to Sail classes offer a thorough introduction to the basics of sailing on a small keelboat.  Topics include: boat nomenclature, rigging and de-rigging the boat, tacking, jibing, helm, sail trim, departing and returning to dock, wind awareness and safety.  In the Learn to Sail class you will learn enough to get you off to a good start and sail with confidence with a little help from our women instructors.
