Charles L. Branch M.D. Leukemia Cup Regatta
May 22 & 23, 2021
The Leukemia Cup Regatta (LCR) is a thrilling series of sailing events across the United States that combines the joy of sailing with the important task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers. Since their inception in the late 1980’s, LCRs have raised more than $70 million nationwide for research and patient services. They are hosted nationally by about 45 independent yacht clubs whose goal is to raise funds for the benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America (LLS). We invite individuals and businesses with an interest is sailing and a passion about raising funds to cure cancer to participate in this year’s LCYC LCR. LCYC last raised $68,000 in 2019. Over the past 6 LCR regattas from 2014-19, LCYC has raised a total of $284,000 for the South-Central Texas Chapter of LLS! Sad to say, but the 2020 LCYC LCR was canceled due to the pandemic.
Create a fundraising team, complete with your own web page, in order to raise funds for blood cancer research. Don’t have a boat? Not planning to race? Create a Virtual Team with a group of friends. If you prefer, contact Ray Leubner at LeukemiaCup@lcyc.net and we will set up a page for you. Jo’Anna Rosales at 210-998-5139 (JoAnna.ROSALES@lls.org) is also available for any questions you might have. Once signed up, you’ll receive a personalized fundraising website and lots of fundraising resources. You can also earn prizes and incentives for all your hard fundraising work.

About the Regatta
With Covid-19 continuing, planning for the Leukemia Cup Regatta for 2021 has been a bit problematic. What has been decided is to proceed with planning for the LCR based on the belief that new vaccines, continued social distancing, and masking discipline will have a real positive impact on controlling the pandemic by May. Given the overall uncertainties, there will not be any promotional items, like T-Shirts, mugs, totes, etc., this year. “Cocktails with the Commodore” has been a great success in past years, so we are again putting a limited version of this on the schedule for the evening of May 21. Over the weekend, one day of racing will be devoted to The Branch Long Distance Race and the other to buoys racing. On Saturday evening, there will be a BBQ dinner, and awards for sponsors and fundraising teams. Due to Covid, there will not be a Silent Auction nor any live music, but there will be music. Modest trophies will be awarded to competing fleets on Sunday afternoon.
Volunteers are needed for both on-the-water and on shore activities. Please call Ray Leubner at 512-633-4434 or Phil Crane at 210-289-3620; you can also email us at LeukemiaCup@lcyc.net if you can help in any way
